The stipend ranging from Rs. 685/- to Rs. 845/- per students per month is granted to 675 students if CIBS, Choglamsar. Besides this, Rs. 685/- per student per month is being disbursed to 946 students of 50 Gonpa/Nunnery schools running in various monasteries of Ladakh region, Kishtwar district of J&K and Lahul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts of Himachal Pradesh on account of stipend.


The Institute has three hostels named after the famous Buddhist scholars with a capacity of 100 seats each for monks, boys and girls-nuns respectively for the students of remote and far-flung areas of the region. These hostels are run under the supervision of Hostel Wardens appointed by the Institute for a period of three years. The Institute also provides cooks, bearers, utensils and cooking gas cylinders for the hostels.


The examinations from Class VI to Class VIII are conducted by the Institute, whereas examinations from Purva Madhyama (10th) to Acharya (M.A.) are conducted by Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi. There is a separate Examination wing where all the records relevant to the examination and result are kept safely.


Admission to the students from Class VI to IX is being provided on the basis of an entrance test conducted by the Admission Committee as per the norms prescribed by the Institute. However, the admission to the monks/nuns of feeder Gonpa/Nunnery Schools of the Institute is provided directly. Admission in the six years’ courses in Sowa Rigpa, Traditional Scroll Painting, Sculpture and Wood Carving, is provided on the basis of minimum qualification of 10th/12th passed and availability of seats.


Earlier the ten-year syllabi covering the subjects of Buddhist Philosophy, Bhoti Language and Literature, Sanskrit and Hindi were in operation. In the year 1973, the Institute was affiliated to the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi (U.P.) and a special syllabi were drawn up to fulfill the requirements of the border area students. To achieve the aims and objectives of the Institute the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University constituted a Board of Studies to review the syllabi periodically. The Board holds meeting once in a year to review the syllabi and to introduce new courses of study.
