- Mission
The mission of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies lies in developing the multi-faceted personality of the students by instilling in them the values of Buddhist philosophy, literature and arts. Further, the mission includes implementing National Education Policy-2020 that leads the learners to innovation and service to society. However to achieve its mission, the institute aims at the following objectives:
- In-depth study of Buddhist Philosophy and Buddhist Logic along with its history, culture and arts.
- The study of canonical literature along with ancient classical languages like Sanskrit, Pali and Bhoti, and also the study of modern languages like Hindi and English.
- The study of modern subjects such as Indian History, Bauddh Puranic History, Comparative Philosophy, Political Science, Economics, Mathematics and General Science.
- Making the Institute a Research Centre of Excellence and providing PhD programs in all the subjects available in the Institute in order to provide opportunity to the poor students of Ladakh.
- Researching on topics related to Buddhism and Himalayan studies, and other subjects taught in the institute.
- Study of Sowa Rigpa Medicines and Surgery, Bhot Astrology and Astronomy, Thankha Paintings, Himalayan Wood Carvings and Himalayan Sculpture related to Buddhism.
- Translation of Buddhist manuscripts into Indian languages like Hindi, Sanskrit and English.
- Collecting, preserving and publishing rare manuscripts.
- Collecting and preserving objects-de-art of archaeological significance of the region.
- Organizing seminars, exhibitions and academic exchange programmes.
