The Institute is located 8 kilometers south of Leh town on the bank of holy river Indus (Sindhu) at Choglamsar village. The Institute has two campuses. The old campus, which is also called Junior Wing of CIBS, is used for running classes for from classes 6th to 8th under the charge of a Headmaster assisted by the Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) and some other staff members. Spreading in about 3 acres of the land the Old campus consists of a teaching block, a small auditorium for 400 audiences, an office and a library for the children.

The New Campus of CIBS, spreads about 27 acres of land covered by boundary wall and attached to approach road, is located just a half kilometer north from the Old campus. The New Campus has separate blocks for teaching, administration, library and three hostels. Three storied Academic Block has 17 classrooms and 10 rooms for various departments with all modern facilities. A three storied Library building has general and Bhoti section with Research Cabins, Reading rooms and rooms for various sections. Three hostels have a capacity of 100 students each for boys, girls-nuns and monks. There are 60 residential quarters of various categories for staff members. There is a large sports stadium with the facilities of spectators’ gallery, dressing rooms, store etc. in the New Campus. Apart from this, the New Campus has an Auditorium, a Debate & Conference Hall, a Health Clinic, and a Canteen-cum-Recreation Centre.

Junior Wing:

    The Junior Wing of the Institute runs at Old Campus spread over 3 acres of land at a distance of 8 km from Leh on the right bank of river Indus on Manali-Leh Highway. Junior Wing has one Office for Headmaster, 12 classrooms, one Auditorium with capacity of 400 audiences, one Guest House with 10 full furnished rooms, kitchen and lounge, one Staff Room, one room each for Store, Book Bank, Stationery etc. The Junior Wing of the Institute runs classes from Class-VI to VIII in the Old Campus under the supervision of a Headmaster assisted by TGTs.

Various projects such as Manuscripts Resource Centre and Manuscripts Conservation Centre of National Manuscript Mission, Govt. of India, and compilation of Encyclopaedia of Himalayan Buddhist Culture Project of the Institute are also running in the Old campus. Guest House of Institute is situated in the Old campus of CIBS.
