About Pali Department :

The study of Pali language and literature is essential for the study of Buddhism in the institute like Central Institute of Buddhist Studies. department of Pali was formally started in the institute on 13th April 1982, when Dr. Ram Nakshatra Prasad has joined here as a Lecture in Pali. Although the post for the Department of Pali was already sanctioned in the year 1980. Due to ignorant about the subject, initially the student were less intrested to study Pali. But gradually the the numberof students increased. Later on, Dr. Ram Nakshatra Prasad promoted as Reader in the department. Dr. Prasad left the institution 10th jULY 2011, after being appointed as Professor in Pali for another Institute. Thereafter, Dr Pradeep Kumar Das joined as a Lecturer in Pali on 15th March, 2012 and he is still serving the department.

Pali is taught here as optional subject from Purva Madhyama(10th) to Shastri(B.A)level. There is a great demand from student to start Post Graduation and Ph.D. courses in Pali. Now Pali is considered as popular and favorite optional subject amongst the students of CIBS.

About Sanskrit Department :

Sanskrit is integral part of Tibetan Buddhism. Department of Sanskrit was started in the year 1974 after got affiliated to Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.
