Educational Tours:
a) Bharat Darshan: The Institute deputes senior students for an educational tour (Bharat Darshan) every year for 36 days during winter vacation to familiarize them with the great historical, industrial, religious and geographical wealth of the country and to imbibe them into the feeling of national integration. A group of students belonging to Acharya II, Shastri III, U.M. II and final year of Sculpture, Painting and Wood Carving classes areeligible for the All India Educational Tour (Bharat Darshan). The Educational Tour is conducted under the supervision of two teachers and one administrative staff of the Institute.
b) Ladakh Darshan: The students of lower classes of the Institute are also provided a local tour (Ladakh Darshan) for a period of 3 to 5 days depending upon the area under the supervision of two/three teaching staff.
c) Himalayan Darshan: The Institute also provides a tour opportunity to the students of Sowa Rigpa for a period of 5 to 10 days to a particular part of the Himalayas under the supervision of a teacher of the Department for the collection/identification of various medicinal herbs and minerals used for preparation of Sowa Rigpa system of medicines at the Institute. The samples of large number of herbs have been kept in the Department in the form of album and others. A large number of Sowa Rigpa medicines are being prepared by the students under the supervision of their teachers with the help of samples collected by them from different and remote areas of Himalayan regions. These medicines are used for the treatment of patients in courses of their practical classes at the Institute.
The students of Thangka Painting/ Himalayan Sculpture/ Himalayan Wood Carving are also sometimes deputed to other monasteries, palaces etc,, for their practical and study of old paintings, statues and wood carvings as part of their field tours.
