Prof. Surinder Kumar Mehta, FRSC

Prof. Surinder Kumar Mehta, FRSC,  is the Ombudsperson of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Leh. He is a renowned chemist and academic leader, currently serving as Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Panjab University, Chandigarh. He has held prestigious leadership roles including Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, Honorary Director of SAIF, Coordinator of CRIKC, Coordinator GIAN and CAS Coordinator, contributing significantly to the development of higher education and research ecosystems in India.

His research interests are rooted in Physical Chemistry, Colloidal Chemistry, Nanochemistry, and Drug Delivery, with emphasis on nanomaterials, photocatalysis, biosensors, electrochemical applications, and sustainable materials science. He has been at the forefront of several international collaborations, notably with institutions in Germany, Japan, and the UK under DAAD, JSPS, and Newton-Bhabha programs, which have enriched his global academic footprint.

With an exceptional research record of 468 publications, over 18995 citations, i10 index of 354 and an H-index of 74 (Google Scholar), four patents, and about 36 books/chapters, he has guided 18 post-doctoral, 57 Ph.D. and more than 50 Master students, and handled 21 national and international research projects. Prof. Mehta has made impactful contributions to reputed journals indexed by ACS, RSC, Elsevier, IEEE, and Scopus.

He has received numerous awards and honors including the DAAD Honorary Advisor, CRSI Bronze Medal, Haryana Vigyan Ratna Award, Prof. W.U. Malik Memorial Award, STE Green Excellence Award, Mahakaruna Award, and the B.N. Ghosh Memorial Award, along with international fellowships from DAAD and JSPS. Recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and being ranked among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University further underscore his academic eminence.

Prof. Surinder Kumar Mehta has also served on several national and international scientific committees, editorial boards, and academic panels, thereby shaping the direction of scientific inquiry and policy in chemical sciences.
