Academic Information:

  • Got intensive training in Sculpture and Painting for 15 years from 1976 to 1991 as one of the disciplines of Ladakh’s well known Sculptor Shri Skarma Tsering of Hemis Shaukpachan at his residence. On the successful completion of the training, started doing sculpture work independently from the year 1991 onwards.
  • Was awarded the Degree of Khanpo  in Arts And Crafts (Doctorate in Mahayana Buddhist Arts and Crafts) in the year 2015.
  • Book titled “Dis-bur Zung-drel gyi Thigspai”  having 300 pages on the origin and development of Mahayana Buddhist Painting and Sculpture, is in the press.

Exhibitions, Festivals and Workshops attended:

  • Workshop-cum-Exhibition in New Delhi, organized by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in the year, 2007.
  • Participated in the 15 day Workshop-cum-Exhibition on Alchi Paintings and Crafts at National Museum, New Delhi in the year, 2009 jointly organized by CIBS, Leh and National Museum, New Delhi.
  • Participated in the 1st International Festival of Buddhist Heritage of Ladakh in the year, 2012, organized by Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, Leh (Ladakh).
  • Participated in the Mahayana Buddhist Arts and Crafts Workshop in the year, 2014, organized by CIHTS, Sarnath, Varanasi, (U.P.)
  • Participated in the All India Exhibition of Mahayana Buddhist Thanka Paintings and Crafts, jointly organized by Nav Nalanda Mahavihar, Nalanda (Bihar), Arunachan Pradesh Govt, CIBS, Leh, Ladakh and CIHTS, Sarnath, Varanasi (U.P.)
  • Participated in the Ladakh Festival-2016 and exhibited clay modeling art in the stall, put up in the festival. Also exhibited my selected art of work to the general public.
  • Taught Mahayana Buddhist Sculpture in the Oasis Friendship Camp, organized by LAHDC, Leh and the DIET, Leh in September, 2917.
  • Participated in the two-day workshop on the subject – “Conservation and Preservation of Monasteries in the Ladakh Region – Challenges and Solutions” in August, September 2017, organized by Archaeological Survey of India and CIBS, Leh.
  • Participated in the 800th Mahaparinirvana Festival of Skyobpa Jigsten Gonpo, held in Dehradun (Uttarakhand). I delivered Lecture on the Origin and Development of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhist Art & Crafts. Workshop was also organized on Mahayana Buddhist Sculpture during the festival.

Works carried out:

  • In 1985, created a 4-foot statue of Drikung Achi Chhibjonma for Tangtse Gonpa, Changthang (Ladakh)
  • In 1987, created a 5-foot statue of Arya Avalokiteshwara with 1,000 hands and 1,000 eyes and a 5-foot statue of Abchi Chhibjonma for Durbuk Gonpa, Changthang           (Ladakh).
  • In 1987, created of 4-foot statue of Skyobpa Rinpoche, a 4-foot statue of Guru Rinpoche and a 5-foot statue of Abchi Chhibjonma for Shayok Gonpa,Changthang (Ladakh)
  • In 1988, created an 8-foot statue of Guru Rinpoche, a 5-foot statue of Kunkhyen Padma Karpoa and a 5-foot statue of Stagtsang Shambhunatha for Skamphuk Gonpa, Nubra,(Ladakh)
  • In 1989, created a set of several statues of Kargyut Sertheng for Shachukul Gonpa, Changthang (Ladakh).
  • In 1989, created a 3-foot statue of Kunkhyen Padma Karpo, a 3-foot statue of Guru Khamsoom Zilnon and a 3-foot statue of Dubchen Tsangpa Gyalsras for Chemdey Gonpa (Ladakh)
  • In 1991, created an 8-foot statue of Guru Rinpoche, a 6-foot statue of Khanpo Boddhisattva, a 6-foot statue of    Gyalpo Thrisong Detsan, a 3-foot statue of Guru Dorjey Dolot and a 3-foot statue of Dubchen Thangstong Gyalpo for Tashi Chhosling Gonpa, Anlay, Changthang (Ladakh)
  • In 1993, created a 6-foot statue of Lord Buddha and 3-foot statue of Skyobpa Jigsten Gonbo for Drikung Gonpa, Tingmosgang (Ladakh)
  • In 1994, created a 7-foot statue of Cho Rinpoche (Crowned Buddha), an 11-foot statue of Chamba (Maitreya) and a statue of Skyobpa Jigsten Gonbo (Thituk Steks) for Lama Yuru Gonpa, Ladakh in two years’ time.
  • In 1996, created a 6-foot statue of Lord Budha, an 8-foot           statue of Guru Rinpoche and a 6-foot statue of           Skyobpa Jigsten Gonbo for Urgyan Dorjey Chhozong, the monastery of Most Ven. Togdan Rinpoche at Ayu-Sabu (Ladakh).
  • In 1997, created the complete set of Achi Chhosdon gyi Zhalbag (Masks) for Lama Yuru Gonpa (Ladakh).
  • In 1997, created the giant 70-foot high  statue of Gyalwa Chamba (Maitreya – The Future Buddha) under the supervision of renowned Sculptor of the Ladakh
  • Himalayas Skarma Tsering at Likir Gonpa complex in Likir (Ladakh)
  • In1998, created a complete set of 60 masks of Gelug Chhos-srung for Thiksay Gonpa (Ladakh).
  • In 1998, created a 13-foot statue of Lord Buddha and also a 13-foot statue of Gyalwa Tsonkhapa for Yulang Gonpa, Zanskar (Ladakh).
  • In 1999, created an 11-foot statue of Cho Rinpoche (Crowned Buddha) for Deskit Gonpa, Nubra (Ladakh).
  • In 1999, created statue of Yabsras Soom, i.e. Skyobpa Jigsten Gonbo (4-feet) and the two main disciples (3 feet each) for Dharmakirti Dharma Centre, Frankfurt (Germany).
  • In 2000, created an 11-foot statue of Guru Dushed for Guru Lhakhang, Tingsmosgang (Ladakh).
  • In 2001, created Khorlo Dechhog-gi-Kilkhor Chhiyi Kotpa Tusthot Gyad etc. (Mandala) for Drikung Changchub Ling Gonpa, Dehradun (Uttarakhand).
  •  In 2003, created a 10-foot statue of Guru Rinpoche, a 7-foot statue of Guru Takpo and a 7-foot statue of Sengdongma for Nyoma Gonpa, Changthang (Ladakh).
  • In 2003, created statues of Marpa, Milarespa and Dagpopa (2 feet each) for Tseskarmo Gonpa, Tingmogang (Ladakh).
  • In 2006, created an 11-foot statue of Amitabha Buddha, a 9-foot statue of Gyalwa Karmapa (Rigpai Dorjey) for Skarma Dub-gyud Chhos Ling Monastery, Choglamsar (Ladakh).
  • In 2006, created a 6-foot statue of Chhoskyong and a 2-foot statue of Abchi for Tharuk Gonpa, Changthang, (Ladakh).
  • In 2006, created an 11-foot statue of Lord Budha for Kuyul Gonpa, Changthang (Ladakh).
  • In 2007, created a 6-foot statue of Phagspa Chanre Zigs (Arya Avalokiteshwara), a 5-foot statue of Amitabh Buddha and an 8-foot statue of Guru Rinpoche for Zangdok Spalri Gonpa, Wanla Sumdo (Ladakh).
  • In 2007, created an 8-foot statue of Guru Dushet and a 7-foot statue of Jamyang Tulpa Lonchhen Norbu Dadul for Wanla Gonpa (Ladakh).
  • In 2008, created a 13-foot statue of Gyalwa Champa (Maitreya) for Chamshen Gonpa, Nubra (Ladakh).
  • In 2009, created an 8-foot statue of Guru Rinpoche, an 8-foot statue of Amitabh Buddha and a 10-foot statue of Chukshik Zhal (Eleven-headed statue of Avalokiteshwara with 1,000 hands and 1,000 eyes) for Hundar Gonpa, Nubra (Ladakh).
  • In 2011, created a 7-foot statue of Spal Esheys-ki-Gonpo and a 6-foot statue of Stansrung Abchi for Monduglu       Gonpa, District Mandi (Himachal Pradesh).
  •  In 2011 to 2012, carried out the decoration work of the main concrete gate of CIBS, Choglamsar, Leh (Ladakh) with Mahayana Buddhist artistic designs.
  • In 2013 to 15, created the 7-foot statue of the Buddha with his first five disciples (each 6-foot high) inside the campus of CIBS, Choglamsar, Leh near the main entrance gate. The Buddha is shown preaching to his first five disciples.

Radio and T.V.  Programs:

  • Presented radio and television programs on sculpture at All India Radio, Leh and Doordarshan Kendra, Leh from time to time.
