Report on National Webinars
During the current COVID-19 pandemic almost all higher education institutions (HEIs) around the world have initiated online teachings, online seminars, workshops, webinars involving large number of teachers and pupils. Complying with the correspondence of UGC and Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (Deemed to be University) Leh has also initiate weekly webinars and lectures online. The webinars are being conducted by the Departments of the Institute, following the guideline designed by the Institute through CIBS facebook page/ Google Meet, Zoom etc. The theme and topics are selected by the concerned Departments to meet the aims and objective of the Institute and the subject area of the department to benefit not only the teachers and students but also larger audience in the world.
The first national webinar was conducted by the Department of Bhoti Language and Literature on 8th June, 2020 on the topic “Bhoti Language and UT Ladakh”. It was hosted by Khenpo Konchok Thupstan, Head of the Department of Bhoti Language and Literature. The first speaker Prof. Konchok Wangdu, Director, CIBS presented his talk on the importance of Bhoti Language for keeping alive rich culture and heritage of the region as well as the ancient Indian wisdom, especially the Nalanda tradition of Buddhist Philosophy. Second speaker Prof. Jamyang Gyaltsen, retired professor, CIBS talked about the development of Bhoti text books in Ladakh and the need of introducing more books in Bhoti language in Schools to inculcate interest in students for their indigenous language, literature and culture. The enlightening talks were followed by questions and answers. The webinar was conducted through CIBS facebook page.
The webinar was technically supported by Ms. Kunzang Dolma, Software Engineer and Samstam Gurmed, Media Specialist, CIBS.
The second webinar was conducted by the Department of Social Science on the 13th June, 2020 on the topic “Revival of Buddhism in India” through Zoom and also shared through CIBS facebook page. The national webinar was convened by Dr Sanjeev Kumar Gautam, Head of the Department of Social Science, supported by Shri Tsering Choldan, Lecturer of Political Science from the same Department. Prof. Konchok Wangdu, Director CIBS delivered the inaugural speech followed by keynote address by Dr Sanjeev Kumar Gautam. Keynote speakers, Prof. Jigar Mohammed, Former Dean of Social Science, University of Jammu and Prof. Shura Darapuri, Former Head of the Department of History, BBAU (Central University) Lacknow, UP presented their presentations on the topic “Revival of Buddhism in India”. Both of them have presented impressive and inspiring papers, touching every aspects of the said topic. It was followed by questions and answers. More than 700 participants, including professors, associate professors, assistant professors, research scholars, students and others have registered for the webinar. It was also shared through CIBS official facebook page. At last Shri Stanzin Tsetan presented the outcome of the webinar, followed by vote of thanks by Ms Diskit Chorol, faculty member of the Department of Social Science, CIBS.
