TEN-DAY ONLINE COURSE ON INTRODUCTION TO BUDDHIST SCIENCE | 18TH -27TH JULY 2020
A 10 day online course on Introduction to Buddhist Science was conducted by Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Deemed to be University, Choglamsar, Ladakh from 18th -27th July 2020. This course was taught by Dr Nilza Wangmo via Zoom Meeting and Facebook live. There were a total of 194 registrations for this course of which about 40 participants were regular attendees on Zoom Meeting. There were 1K-7K views on Facebook live through all the sessions. The participants with 75% attendance were awarded with an e-Certificate for participation.
During the 10 day sessions from 4-5 pm various topics from Buddhist Science were taught and discussed such as the Concept of Mind in Buddhism and its divisions, Mind and Mental Factors, The Two Truths, The Four Noble Truths, the Paradox of Mind-Brain briefly touching upon Chapter 2 of Pramāṇavārttika (Commentary on Valid Cognition; Tib. tshad ma rnam ‘grel) by Acharya Dharmakirti, the state of Thugdam (Meditative Equipoise), and Universal Ethics focused on the framework of SEE (Social, Emotional and Ethical) Learning K-12 Curriculum. The last 10-15 minute slot of each session was kept for Q&A.
The participants were primarily university research scholars from CIBS, Leh, Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, B.R.Ambedkar University, Lucknow, Reykjavik University, TISS Mumbai, Uttarakhand Technical University, FU, Berlin. There were also Assistant Professors and Guest Faculties from Delhi University, Dept of Buddhist Studies, Jammu University, Dept. of Pali, Mumbai University, NNM Nalanda Bihar. The participants took active role in the Q&A sessions and expressed their deep interest in learning more about Buddhist Science.
