About the Department:

Sampradaya Shastra Department was established in the year 2012 in Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh, Ladakh. Subjects related to the four traditions of Tibetan Buddhism i.e. Nyingma Tradition, Kargyud Tradition, Sakya Tradition and Gelug Tradition are taught in this department for degree courses of Shastri (B.A.), Acharya (M.A) and Ph.D. All these traditions directly originated from Tibet and have its indirect bridge to India. These traditions still existed vibrantly in Ladakh as living traditions. The department has also been organizing lecture series, diploma and certificate courses, workshops, local seminars, national seminars, national webinars and international conferences, since its inception.
