Since the Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha, The Buddhist monastic communities have periodically convened to settle doctrinal and disciplinary disputes and revise and correct the contents of the sutra. the first Buddhist council was held soon after the Mahaparinirvana of Buddha. Second Buddhist council derives primarily from the canonical Vinaya of various schools. Third council was convened under the patronage of Emperor Ashoka. This council is reported to rid the Sangha of corruption in the form of enemies. In this volume has compiled the seminar proceeding.
